ENVIRONMENT MINISTER SHOWS SUPPORT FOR THE SUDBURY SOILS STUDY
SUDBURY – The SARA Group undertaking the Sudbury Soils Study reported to the Technical Committee at their monthly meeting last week on their recent presentation to Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario Minister of the Environment. “Ministry staff on the Technical Committee for the Sudbury Soils Study invited us to make a presentation to Minister Dombrowsky during her visit to Sudbury last week,” said Christopher Wren, Director of the SARA Group. “We were more than willing to talk with the Minister about this community-based initiative, which is groundbreaking not only for Sudbury, but for the entire province”.
The presentation was made during the recent open house celebrating the opening of the new Ministry of the Environment offices at 199 Larch Street in Sudbury. The event also included a social open house with members of the Sudbury Soils Study Technical Committee, and various invited guests from local government and service organizations. “We are pleased to continue our on-going efforts to keep government officials and the public informed about the study,” said Wren. “We are actively inviting requests for presentations similar to that given to Minister Dombrowsky from community groups and politicians at all levels of government. If anyone is interested in a presentation, please contact us at our toll-free project number 1-866-315-0228, or at our email address, questions@sudburysoilsstudy.com.”
The next PAC meeting will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2004 from 7:00 to 9:30 pm, at the Lionel Lalonde Trillium Centre, 239 Montee Principale, Azilda. The next Technical Committee meetings will be held Thursday, October 14, and Wednesday, November 10, with public sessions from 9:30 to 10:30 am, in Room C11 of Tom Davies Square.
